1 I The coal question seems to be attracting a I great deal of attention in this district of I late. A special meeting of the Road Board I was held on' the 23rd to consider, a request I from Mr. P. E. Cheal, to lease certain roads I for the use of a steam tram. After (hV ' I cussing the question from its various asI pects, the clerk to the Board was in. I structed to communicate with, or confer 3 with, the-Board's solicitors, and get a draft 1 agreement prepared in terms of the Board's 1 decision, in order that it may be ready for 1 the next meeting of the Board, to deal with on the 24th. A representative of, a New I South Wales coal mining company, winch 1 company is now sinking a shaft 3000tt deep, 3 visited the district, with the view of open' ing up the field. English capitalist,'' are also looking this way, and their representative was to have visited the district on the* 26th, but will be delayed until February £, when a party of three experts and capital ' representatives are expected to inspect ■ tfe* -. field.—[Own Correspondent.]
