[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ; Wellington, Saturday. | Walter Millies Phillips] general mana-1 ger in New Zealand for the Imperial Insur- i ance Company, was arrested here this ■morn- \ ing on a charge laid at the instance of the j company of having defrauded it of £406 Is ] by means of a bogus fire, purporting to have | taken place in Armagh-street, Christchurch, | in March, 1899. The allegation is that ac-1 cused represented to the company that such a fire had taken place, and by sending Home* the usual evidence of proof of the loss, ob-1 tained £400 from the company, and also the 1 ; expenses of his trip to Christchurch. Ac-1 cused was brought before the Magistrate's: Court this morning, and remanded till Feb-1 ruary 1. Phillips was admitted to bail ing ' two sureties of £100 each. . | —— • fl
