[FROM our own correspondents.] WAIHI. AT a meeting of the Waihi Miners' Union, held on Saturday night, January 12, the following members were appointed a working committee to act in conjunction with -the Union Committee of Management in drawing out a programme of sports.to be held on March 4 next:—Messrs. D. Galley, P. Kennon, F. (yGrady. K. Joyce, J. Blair, D. Smeeton, D. Contts, S. Paul, W. Morton, H. Carter. W. Simms, and ■). Carter. There have been quite a number "of visitors here from Auckland since the holidays. vvaikino sent their cricket team out to Waihi last Saturday to meet the West End team, but owing to many members of the latter still being away holiday-making, they only mustered five members. The following kindly assisted to make up a team:— Meyer, Hoyte, Spratt, loung, Capel, and Carter. Th« match calls for little comment, the batting on both sides being very poor. Eager, playing for Waikino, made 14 in good style, and was the only one to make double figures. The following are the scores:— End: Meyer 1, Barron 3. Wallnutt 0, Hoyte 6, Hayes 4, Spratt 5. Young (not out) 9, Robins 2. Gosnell 0, White 0. Capel 1: total, 31. Croncher took four wickets for 18 runs, and Avery four for 12 runs. Waikino: Croncher 6, Eager 14, Jenkins 4, Crowley 0, Spratt 0. Avery 1, Ellingham 0, McLatchie 4 (not out), Phelan 1, Hargreaves 0, Eraser 0. extras 3* total, 34. Capel took three wickets for 1! runs and Carter six for 11 runs. Waikin* thus won by three runs. The inter-clvr matches will be resumed next Saturday when Suburbs meet West End.
