OHINEMURI DRUIDS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Paerda, Friday. Brother James Mackay, grand secretary of the North Island Druids, and Brother Rubery, grand vice-president, paid a visit to the Star of Paeroa Lodge last evening, and gave interesting addresses on Druidical matters. Brother Heape, Arch-Druid, presided, and there was a fair attendance of members. After the business of the evening the lodge went into harmony, and a couple of enjoyable hours were spent. Tonight the Waihi Lodge is being visited.
ALLEGED LIBEL.
[BY TKLI!GRAT!t.— PRESS ASPOCIATtON.] Wellington, Friday. An* action was heard by the Chief Justice this morning, in which George M. Hewson, a blind man, carrying on a labour agency, sued Thomas Shute, of Taihapc, for £300 damages for alleged libel contained in a telegram as follows:—"Unless money _ is returned immediately, will sue for obtaining under false pretences." Defendant pleaded that the telegram, which he believed was Bent by his wife, was forwarded without his knowledge or consent. As the parties hud agreed that if the telegram was found to be defamatory, damages should be £2, with £10 costs. .His Honor reserved his decision to consider the important bearing of the case upon telegraphed communications.
