CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
The usual meeting of the City Schools Committee was held in the Wellesley-street school last evoning. Mr. G. Squirrell (chairman) presided, and there were also present: Drs. King and .Walker, and Messrs. Mackay, Sherson, Holloway, McLeod, and Oldham.
Attendance at Schools: The Chairman read the following lists of attendances at the city schools during the past month:—Wellesleystreet school, number on roll 751, average attendance 655; Beresford-street school, number on roll 723, average attendance 621; Na-pier-street school, number on roll 721, average attendance 657; Nelson-street school, number on roll 490, average attendance 437; Chapel-street school, number on' roll 238, average attendance 212. School Appointments: The secretary of the Board of Education wrote stating that Mr. A. H. Skelton, E2, had been appointed to the staff of Napier-street school, and that Miss Alice M. Arey's appointment as sixth assistant at that school would date as and from January 31. ' Napier-street School: A letter was received from the Board of Education stating that they did not consider that the teachers room in a pi er_sfcreefc school required painting at the present time, and that instructions bad been given for the removal of rubbish from, the playground. Schools' Visitation: A sub-oomnuttee, consisting of the chairman, Dr. Walker, and Mr. Sherson, was appointed to make the annual visit of inspection to the various schools.
