Mb. R. Smakt, of the Bank of New Zealand, Levin, is about to be transferred to Wanganui. Commissioner Tunbridge, after concluding his official business in Auckland, left for Wellington yesterday by the Zealandia. Dr. J. A. Laing, of Devonport, who has been ill since the Agricultural Show, where he contracted a cold which developed into rheumatism of the heart, is now improving, his condition yesterday indicating that he is on the way to recovery. A cablegram has been received in Wellington (a Press Association telegram states) that Dr. W. A. Logan (formerly ol the Dunedin Medical School, and late surgeon of the Dunedin Hospital), a son of Mr. J. K. Logan, Superintendent of Telegraphs, has passed his final examination for F.R.C.S., London. On Mr.. R. W. Allen, of Auckland, recently gaining a scholarship at Guy's Hospital, London, he received a telegram from the Students' Association of the Auckland University College' and the Grammar School Old Boys' Association, congratulating him on his success.' Mr. Allen has replied to his fellow schoolfellows and students thanking them for their congratulations.
Mr. P. A. Vaile, who is going to the New Zealand championship tournament, at Christchurch,, with the Auckland tennis players, was last night elected one of the delegates to the Southern centres of cycling, to represent the Auckland Cycle Roads League. It is proposed to hold a conference of delegates in Christchurch to confer with Mr. P. A. Vaile and his fellow delegates, as to the Cycle Boards Bill.
Mi*. Colin McAffer, the champion walker of Australasia, who has been for 14 years With the Auckland branch of the firm of Messrs. Stewart Dawson and Co., has been transferred to the new Wellington branch of the same firm. In leaving Auckland his fellow employees have presented him with a handsome sterling silvei, gold-mounted cigarette case, with matchbox gold-mounted, and also with a handsome silver-mounted pipe in case. The inscription is on the gold mounting of the cigarette case and matchbox. The whole presentation is in a morocco silk-lined case. Mr. McAffer leaves for Wellington to-day. At the close of business at Onehunga on Saturday evening last, Mr. Henderson was presented with a handsome travelling bag on the occasion ox his leaving Mr. Whyte's employ to start business on his own account at Devonport. Ir making the presentation on behalf of the staff, Mr. Whyte referred to the uprightness ot charactei and business ability displayed by Mr. Henderson during the nine years he had been in his employ, and to the kindly relationships always existing in the establishment. It was with great regret that they parted with him, and he carries with him to Devonport the very best wishes of the firm and his large circle of friends for his future success; Mr. Henderson reelingly responded to the good wishes expressed, ______„,,.
