WESLEY AN SYNOD AT BLENHEIM.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.]
z Blenheim, Tuesday. The Wesleyan District Synod passed a resolution appreciating the effect of the Transvaal war on the Empire, and expressing admiration of the courage and Christian conduct of the army and navy ; also the work of the hospital staffs, and expressing sympathy with the bereaved. It was resolved that the late action of the police respecting Chinese gambling in Wellington shows terrible inconsistency on the part or the colony in looking with complacency upon a far grosser phase of gambling common to Europeans, while severely harassing foreigners. ' A motion was passed in favour of Bible reading in schools.
