STRONG REMARKS BY A MAGISTRATE.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—pri;ss ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, Tuesday. At the Magistrate's Court to-day a man named Ross was charged with having mad' l a bet with p. minor. After evidence had been heard, Mr. Beetham stated that he would dismiss the case. Such cases wer" simply a tissue of lies. The fact was that gambling was demoralising the communit--anu the root of the whole evil was the totaksator. The thing was simply sickening.
