THE BADEN-POWELL TESTIMONIAL.— A PROTEST.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— respectfully enter a protest, on my own behalf, and on behalf of a number of subscribers to the above object, in this district, against tho decision arrived at by the committee in your city to inscribe tha escritoire and casket to be presented to the hero of eking, as gifts " from Auckland citizens." A large proportion of the money subscribed was contributed by dwellers in the country districts. It would only be a. fair thing to allow such subscribers to participate in the honour attached to the presentation by inscribing the gifts aforesaid, as from the Auckland province. By thus removing all traces of parochial proclivities, that hamper so many of our undertakings, tho BadenPowell Testimonial Committee would bo conferring a greater honour upon the recipient without in tho slightest degree diminishing the credit due to themselves.—l am, etc., Subscriber. Tairua, November 5, 1900. j
