[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, Monday. The 17th annual conference of the Baptist Union opened with a young people's public meeting to-night. The Rev. Boreham, of Mosgiel, presided over the largest meeting of the kind which the union has ever held. The. Revs. Salter, Howard, and Muirhead delivered addresses. The Rev. Doke (Christchurch) welcomed the representatives, and the Rev. J. Clark (president) presented the prizes to the successful Canterbury competitors in the prize essay. The business sessions commence to-morrow.
