DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY.

Tills popular place of entertainment was again patronised by a large audience last evening, when Monday night's enjoyable programme was again presented with marked success. Encores were frequent and imperative, Miss Zesch and Mr. Halm having to respond to a double recall for their duet, " The Battle Eve." Mr. Torn Leonard was also received with much applause, as was Miss Trixie Leamar for her serio-oomic songs and dances. A lmighablo farce, entitled " The Coopers," concluded one of the best bills ever presented by the company. To-night the management announce (ho reappearance of Miss Ida Roslyn, the favourite serio and dancer, and Messrs. McKisson and Kearns, renowned knockabout artists and Irish patter comedians. PARNELL LITERARY AND DEBATINGSOCIETY. The above society held its fortnightly meeting in the schoolroom on Monday evening. There was a. fair attendance. A very interesting and instructive paper on "Two Decades of Cheap Literature " was read, and an animated discussion followed, ending with a hearty vote of thanks being passed to Mr. A. J. Evans for his excellent paper. This society, which is a purely undenominatirtnal one, is steadily growing in numbers, and it is sincercly hoped that more young men and women of the district will see the advantages and will avail themselves of this valuable opportunity for self-improvement. ST. JOHN'S LITERARY SOCIETY. The fortnight!) meeting of the St. John's Literary and Musical Society was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening, when Mr. F. G. Ewington delivered his most interesting lecture, " Britons and Boers in South Africa,' 1 to a large and appreciative audience. During the evening a vooal solo was well rendered by Miss E. Bouskill. At the close of the lecture a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the lecturer by all present. FULLERS' WAXWORKS. Fullers' Waxworks and Bijou Ministrel Company have undoubtedly "caught on," and despite the rain, the Agricultural Hall was again well patronised last night. The programme opened with the Royal Punch and Judy show, manipulated by Professor Beckford; after whieh t the Bijou Minstrel Party presented a variety programme which was gone through in good style, encores being very frequent. Tho same programme will be repeated to-night. On Saturday afternoon a special matinee for children will be given. OLD CHUMS' AND SCHOOLFELLOWS' SOCIAL. The Old Chums and Schoolfellows' Association gave their first social in St. George's Hall last evening. In spite of tho heavy downpour of rain, about 140 couples accepted tho invitation of. the committee, and spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The floor was in excellent order, having been specially prepared by (lie committee, ami the hall was very tastefully decorated with a fine display of bunting. A programme of 14 dances, besides several extras, was gone through, to the excellent music supplied by Mr. Marriage's band. Messrs. McConnochie, Christmas, and Saunders- were the M.C.'s, and performed ineir duties very efficiently. LIBERAL AND LABOUR FEDERATION. Last night c council meeting of the Liberal and Laliour Federation was held. In spite of tho heavy rain there was a good attendance of members. Mr. IT. Wilding, vicepresident, was in the chair, and by-laws were drawn up to be laid before tho general meeting, to be held iii a few days. . MISSIONARY MEETINGS, [IIY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ConoMAiVDEL, Tuesday. On Sunday last tho Rev. Do B. Galway, 8.A.. organising secretary of the Olmroh of England Missionary Society, preached in Ooromamlel morning and evening to very large congregations. The sermons were of a most inspiriting character, Last evening tho tamo gentleman delivered a stilting address in Christ Church, dealing with missionary work in goiiornl, and in the south of India I in partioulor.
