By Telegraph.-Press Association.-Copyright. London, May 8. Tho wool sales opened briskly. Prices show a decline of 7i to 12i per cent. London, May 9. Buxton, Balme, and Jacobs' joint catalogue comprised 6374 bales, a wretched selection. There was a largo attendance of buyers, and excellent competition on the part of the Homo trade at lower values. Compared with the March closing rates, merinos declined 10 per cent., fine crossbreds from 10 to 12j per cent., and low qualities 7£ per cent.

ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET.

Ciii'.isTcinincii, Wednesday. At the Addington market 4400 fat sheep, 1500 fat lamhs, 900 store sheep, 371 cattle, 333 pigs were yarded. fat cattle: 234 head, the bulk being really good sorts. The large yarding caused buyers to hold off, and there was little life in the sale, but last week's rates were about upheld, viz., t7s to 19s for prime beef, and 13s to 17s for other sorts. Fourteen North Island bullocks brought £8 5s apiece. Best local steers, £7 to £8; others, £5 15s to £6 10s; heifers, £4 2s 6d to £7; cows, £3 10s to £5 15s Cd.

Pat sheep: Mixed entry. All classes met with keen competition. Freezing sorts were 6d dearer, owing chiefly to winter coming, and butchers' ewes advanced Is to Is 6d per head: heavy weathers, up to 19s 4(1; freezers, 16s 6d to 19s; lighter sorts, down to 15s 9d; prime ewes, 16s 6d to 18s; good, 14s to 15s 6d; others, down to 13s; merino wethers, lis 9d; ewes, 10s 6d. Fat lambs included a few extra prime linos. A very fine consignment from Acton Estate was taken for freezing at 24s and 255, and another line of 142 at 16s 3d. Ordinary freezing quality, 13s to 14s 8d; butchers' sorts and inferior, from 10s 6d to 12s 6d; good shorn lambs, 13s. Freezing buyers competed keenly, hut butchers were not anxious. The yarding of store sheep contained a good proportion of wethers, very few of which were in really forward condition. The demand for wethers and lambs and owes was scarcely so keen as last week, and a large number of all sorts was passed, Forward wethers, from 13s lOd to 14s lOd, and others lis fid to 13s, including 400 at 14s 3d, 362 at 14s lOd, 748 at 13s 2d, 821 at 12s 2d, and 3-30 at lis fid; 390 hoggets, 10s lid to lis; 349 voting half bred ewes, 16s; fair crossbred?, 108 7d to 10s 10(1; aged, 8s 5(1 to 9s 7d; forward lambs, 10s 8d to lis; others, 9s lid to 10s 3d. The entry of pigs was very small, and caused a slight ri«o in fat sorts, but no improvement in stores. Baconers brought 32s 6d to 36> 6d: porkers. 2<B to 325; stores, 83 to 14s; and' suckers and weaners, 2s 6d to 7s 6d. CHAIN MARKET. Dunedin, Wednesday. Wheat i The market for prime milling continues firm at late quotations, and sales are effected without difficulty. Medium is not in request. Prime milling. 2s 6d to 2s 7d; medium, 2s Id to 2s Id; fowl wheat, Is lid to 2s (sacks In). Oats: These are coming to hand freelv. Vendors evidence a disposition to store. In the meantime tho quantity on offer is limited. Buyers, however, have no difficulty in supplying orders, and are not disposed to speculate at current prices, which are a fraction lower. The demand Is chiefly for bright short feed. Prime milling, la 9d to Is lOd s good to best feed, Is 8d to Is BJd| medium, Is 7d to Is 7Jd; inferior, Is 5d to Is fid,(sacks extra). Barley: Hie demand is entirely confined to prime quality. Extra prime barley, 3s to 3s 6d; prime malting, 2s 4d to 2a 10(1; good, 2s to 2s 3d; milling and feed, Is 6d to Is 10(1 (sacks extra).
