POLICE COURT NEWS. At tho Police Court yesterday morning, Messrs. F. G. Clayton and W. C. Walter, J.P.'s, were tho presiding justices. Drunkenness : Michael Cary, an old offender, and John Halligan, were each fined 20s or in default seven days' hard labour; John Lynch, for his second offence, was fined 10s or 48 hours; Nicolas Bratlin and Chas. Duckenfield were convicted and discharged." Two first offenders were similarly dealt with. Remands: James Sydney Dawson, charged with stealing a pair of boots, the property of J. S. Kenzie, was remanded till Wednesday. James Downey, charged with assaulting one Richard Dawes, was remanded till Friday, bail being allowed in two sureties 'if £50 each. Alice Mitchell, charged with assaulting Elizabeth Bonham, by striking her with a knife, was also remanded till Friday, bail being allowed on her husband's bond for £20. Geo. Darlington was charged with using obscene language in a public place; also with assaulting one Wm. Henry Lambert, by kicking him, and striking him in the face with his clenched first, and further, with damaging a naval jacket, the property of the said Wm. Lambert. Accused was remanded till Wednesday. Albert Wood, on a charge of assault with intent to commit rape, was remanded to Cambridge. Threatening Behaviour : < Robert Simpson and Tlios. Honry Simpkin wero charged that they did, on April 15, use threatening behaviour to each other, thereby occasioning a broach of the peace. The. evidence of Constable Douthett ' was taken, which showed that tho men were fighting in Day-street at an early hour on Sunday morning. Both men were convicted and fined 20s and costs. Withdrawn : The charge against Donald McLeod Pat on, that he was about to leav3 tho colony without making proper provision for tho maintenance of his wife, was withdrawn on the application of Mrs. Paton. Mr. Cotter appeared for the defence.
