THAMES EASTER FETE.
[HI TELEGRAPH.—own CORRESPONDENT ] Thames, Monday. • The annual Easter fote of tlio Thames United Foresters took place at Dod's Paddock, at Parawai, and was very successful. Beautiful weather prevailed, and the attendance was about 1500, which included a great- number of visitors from Auckland, Coromandel, and tho upper country districts. The sports were all well contested, and carried out. prompt to time, and some very close finishes took place. All the officials worked harmoniously together, the various offices boing filled as follows:—Judge, Mr. T. Burrett; starter, Mr. E. Nordon; umpires, Messrs'. 1. Rose, C. Hamon, and H. J. Fielder, together with Messrs. E. and B. Raphael, of the East Melbourne Bicyclo Club; timekeeper, Mr. N. Cohen; handicappers, Mr. WPr *' yro for 11,0 cycling events, and Mr. W. McConncll for the foot races; committee, Messrs. E. Nordon, T. Burrett, J. McDonald, D. Redwood, 11. McCarthney, R. Vercoo, W. Taylor, H. Stone, T. Soinmerville, I'j. ,T. Milnes, and J. Cooke; secretary, Mr. A. C. Rao. Tho following are the results of the various events: Maidon Race, 120 yds: M.' Elliott, 1; R. Hell, 2; W. Rowe, 3. Won by ljyds. Time, 14s.
Easter Handicap, 100 yds: First heat-A. H. Mathorson, syds, 1; T. George, 7yds, 2; C. E. McCarthy, 6yds, 3. Colo and Hindman also ran. McCarthy, tho third man, was disqualified for foul running, and the position awarded to Cole. Time, 10 9-10s. Second heat— Clark, 6yds, 1; H. Gladding, 2yds, 2; 31. Elliott, Byds, 3. Won by about a foot. Time, 10. 3-ss. Final heat—Clark and Oeorgo ran a dead heat in this ovent, with Gladding a good third, but in the run off George won by about a foot from Clark. Time, IOJs. . Ono-mile Bicyclo Handicap: R. 11. Davies, 15yds, 1; R. Hendry, 30yds, 2; D. L. Allen, 80yds, 3. Nino started. , This was a capital race, . and was won by about two wheels. Time, 2in. 355.
120 yds Amateur Handicap: L. Mayeson, 6yds, 1; W. Martin, 4yds, 2; E. Williams, 7yds, 3. Won by about 2yds, thero being seven competitors. Time, 12 3-ss. One-mile Bic«:lo Handicap (amateur riders): F. H. Wilkinson, 30yds," 1; J, Giles, 40yds, 2; R. Rogers, By<ls,, 3. Eight started. Wilkinson won by about a wheel. Time, 2m. 36is. llnlf-milo Flat Handicap: Piropiro, 25yds, 1; W. Iluckslop,-scratch, 2; A. Reynolds, 25yds, 3. Ton started, but only throe finished. Won easily by sevoral yards. Time, 2m. 3s. Easter Handicap, 200 yds: This event was to have been run in two heats and a final, but as there wore only five competitors it was decided to run only one heat. The winner turned lip in C. Clark (9yds), with H. Gladding (4yds) second, and J. 11. George (12yds), third. Time, 26 l-3s. ■ Two-Mile Bicycle Handicap (cash riders): D. L. Allen, 180 yds, 1; W. J. Irwin, 90yds, 2; R. 11. Davis, 30yds, 3. Nino started. Allen won by about 40yds, whilst Irwin beat' Davis by about syds. Time, sni. 255. 300 yds Amateur Handicap; E. Williams,. 15yds, 1; L. Mayeon, llj'ils, 2; S. Ileald, 6yds, 3. Six started. Time, 345. Three-Mile Bicycle Handicap (amateur riders): G. Giles, 120 yds, 1; F. Ilayward, 100 yds, 2: F. Wilkinson, 80yds, 3. Eight started. Time, Bm. 445. Thames Wheel Race, two miles (cash riders): R. 11. Davis, 30yds, 1; W. Tresidder, 150 yds, 2; C. Curtis, scratch, 3. Nino started. Allen made the paeo for about three-quarters of the distance, wlion ho was passed by the placed men, the finish being exceedingly close, as Tresidder caino with a big spurt in the last 20yds, and all but boat Davis. Time, sm. 42 l-ss. One-Mile Flat Handicap: Firopiro, 50yds, 1; C. Swann, 40yds, 2; W. Huckstep, scratch, 3. This was a good race. Firopiro assumed the lead shortly after the start, but eventually Swann challenged him, and the pair raced together until entering the straight for tho homo run, when Piropiro ran away with a brilliant spurt, and eventually won with tho greatest ease, amidst considerable excitement. Time, 4m. 41s. Committeemen's Race, 100 yds: Dedwood, 1; E. Nordon, 2. Easter Handicap, 300 yds: T. George, I,2yds, 1; 11. Gladding, 6yds, 2; A. 11. Mathewson, 11yds, 3. This event was very closely contested, and was won on tho post. Firo Brigade One-Man Coupling Event: Eleven competitors took part in this ovent, including competitors from Grey Lynn, Devonport, and Thamos Fire Brigades. The local men, however, proved rather too good for tho visitors, the result boing: L. Alexander (time, 30 4-55.), 1; Gibbons (time, 435), 2; Moran (time, 41 3-55., and 2s. penalty), 3. Firo Brigade Event (hoso and hydrant for throo men): Three teams competed, two being local and ono from Dovonport. Thames No.' 1 team (timo, 24 4-55.), 1; Dovonport (timo, 26 4-55.), 2; Thames No. 2 (time, 29 2-5 a)," 3. . Multioyclo Handicap, two miles: Only ono tandem started, tho committee allowing it to start to make a tandora record for tho courso, which was accomplished in sm. 2s.
