PROHIBITION CONVENTION.
[by telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION'.] Christciicrch, Saturday. A Prohibition Convention opened hert yesterday. It was decided to urge the a]* pointment of a permanent secretary to the Alliance, also two travelling agents, one to be a woman, if possible. ' The Alliance was requested to invite Lady Henry Somerset to visit this colony in the interests of the nolicense movement. The executive were requested to wait upon the Premier and lay before him' the demands of the temperance party. The Rev. H. C. Watson was elected president." The evening session was occupied with a debate, " That it is desirable to retain the reduction issue of the local option poll." The Rev. L. M. Isitfc supported the proposal, and Mr. T. E. Tayi lor opposed it.
