The Northern Oompany'9 steamer Chelmsford leaves for Wliangapona at nine o'clock to-night. , , . This morning the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Waimate will be berthed at the Railway Wharf to take in frozen meat for London, and leaves for Wellington in the evening. The brigantine Vision was floated into the Auckland Dock yesterday for general overhaul. Yesterday the Government steamer Innemoa arrived at Wellington from Onehunga. THE BOTOKINO. The Union Company's • steamer Rotokino. from Auckland to Wellington with the Rough Riders, was passed by the s.s. Pukaki off the East Cape at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. THE MARAROA. The Union Company's steamer Mararoa left Sydney for Auckland last evening, and is due on Sunday next. but, owing to the fresh outbreak of bubonic plague will havo to undergo quarantine. THE MANAPOURI. The Union Company's steamer Manaponri will be floated out of Calliope Dock this morning, and is to leave for Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, and Sydney at noon to-morrow. THE OVALAU. The Union Company's sfeamer Ovalau, Captain F. W. Macbeth, from the Society and Cook Islands, was inspected by the health officer yesterday morning, and being granted pratique was berthed at the Queen-street Wharf, and the work of discharging her cargo of pearlshell. copra, cotton, fruit, etc., proceeded with. Mr. James A. Tubby, the purser, reports:—The Ovalau left Auckland on the 13th ult.,, and reached P.arotonga at 4.30 a.m. on the 20th. < Left at 11 a..m the same date, and arrived at Papeete at 1.30 a.m. on the 23rd. Left that port at 5.30 p.m. on the 25th, and anchored off Rarotonga at 3.30 a.m. on the 28th, and left for Auckland at 7 p.m. the same date, arriving as above. Experienced fine weather to Papeete, and heavy rains during the vessel's stay in that port, followed bv fine weather to arrival at Auckland. The Ovalau leaves for the Islands again on Tuesday evening next.
THE PUKAKL The Union Company's steamer Pukaki. Cantain George Lambert, arrived from the South yesterday afternoon with a cargo of grain and produce, berthing at Quay-street Jetty No. -2. Mr. E. R. Stock, the purser, reports that the steamer left the Bluff on the Ist inst., Oamarn on the 2nd, and Timaru on the 3rd at 8.40 p.m.; rounded the East Cape at 3 p.m. on the 6th; had Cuvier abeam at 8.45 p.m. on the 7th, and anchored alongside at 4 p.m. the same date. Experienced fresh to moderate south-east winds, with considerable northerly swell between Timnru and the East Cane, and moderate north-east wind's across the Bay ot Plcntv to arrival. The Pukaki leave? at noon to-day for Napier, at which port she takes in a cargo of sheen for Lyttelton. THE TUTANEKAI. The Government steamer Tutanekni left Wellington for East Cape Wand on Momlav night last, taking 90 cases of lantern material, 430 sacks of gravel, and a steam launch, in which Captain Gray is to survey the cable route from the island to the mainland. The steamer will then return to Wellington to be fitted with her cable-laying gear to enable her to lay that cable and do some pick-lng-np work in Cook Strait. AN INTERESTING RECORD. At midnight, the weather having improved somewhat, shaped : a course for the East Cape, but there was . a heavy head sea. Brought tip at the Cape on the 28th, it blowing a north-west gale. At 2 a.m. on the Ist inst., the wind suddenly shifted into the iionth, bo got nnderweigh, and proceeded round the Cape, shaping a course for Hick's Hay, which was reached at 10 a.m. on the 2nd. Blew the boiler down, and,left at 1 p.m., and arrived at Tekawakawa at 8 p.m. the same date. Went into the river next moriing. blew the boiler down, and filled up with fresh water, and at 6 p.m. left again, reaching Tanranga- at noon on the 3rd. Filled up with fresh water, and got wulerweieh the next morning, but on getting outside for n'd the sea too heavy, and returned, remaining until the sth. when a fresh start was made, hut had to return again owing to the heavy sea. Finally got away at 10 a.m. that (lav. and reached Mercury Bay at 7 p.m. Riled up with fresh water, and started at 8 a.m. on. the 6tli, out it was blowing from the north-east, with too much sea to proceed. By midnight the weather had moderated, but there was still a heavy sea.
