DEATH UNDER CHLOROFORM

e A WOMAN DIES WHILE HAVING TEETH EXTRACTED. { A very distressing incident took place yesterday morning at the premises of Mr. fieo. P. Murray, Upper Symonds-street, when 3 Mrs. Brown, wife of Mr. Francis Wm. j Brown, farmer, of Whanjrnrapn (Matakann), died while under chloroform, administered to her with a view to her having soino teeth extracted. Mrs. Brown and her husband, and her father (Mr. George Jennings, of To Aral), were in Auckland on a visit, and were stopping at the W.arkworth hoardinchoiise. Upper Queen-street. Yesterdav morning thev mado an arrangement to lie at the dentistrv of Mr. Murray, and half-an-hour later Mrs. Brown sat to have a number of her teeth extracted. Dr. Parites examined Mrs. Brown to see whether she was a fit subject for chloroform, and then adminis- ' tered it. Mr. Murray proceeded with his t professional (Unties, when suddenly Mrs. Brown collapsed, and almost immediately passed away. Dr. Parker used every possible means to restore animation, but the patient never came to. He is of opinion that death was due to failure of the heart's action. Dr. Parkes as soon as possible telephoned In the police authorities what had occurred. Rercpiuit Murray shnrtlv afterwards visited the dentistry, hut Mr. Murray was unable to throw any further light upon the matter. , Mrs. Brown was 28 years of age. and leaves . two children. Mr.' Jennings (her father), states that his daughter was Always a strong. wiry woman, and that she had neve. , suffered ! from sickness. When the tidines of the Fad ' affair was circulated in (he neighbourhood ! much sympathy was felt and expressed for the bereaved husband and father. During the afternoon the remains of Mrs. Brown were removed to the premises of Mr. C. Liitle, undertaker, of Hobson-street, in order to await the usual inquiry. An inquest will be held at nine o'clock this morning, at the Prince of Wales HnM, Hnbsonstreet. It is intends! to take Mrs. Brown's remains to her late home for interment. 3
