Tms week's number of the Aucktavd Weekly News is a more attractive irsiie than usual, and contains a number of n'ost interesting reproductions of photographs received from tho seat of war in South Africa by the last mail, as well as a further inftal- , ment nf sketches from our snccinl artist 3 with tho New Zealand contingent. Ihe titles of some of the chinf pictures of the war are as follow: —" TTw the Gordons charged the Boers at OohWs Klrmf;" " Removing the wounded from the battlefield nf Rietfontein;" "Safe within the British lines;" "Wrnberj; Hospital Camp, Cape Colony;" "Captive bnlloon attached to an armoured train;" "New steam plough for making entrenchments," etc. A feature of the number is a splendid half-pane pano- ' rnmic view of the Newtown Park camp. 7 Wellington, where the second New Zealand r contingent, is now assembled, and in addition ? to this there are several good pictures illustrating fife at the camp. A good picture . is given of Captain Reid, who has been appointed to the command of the No. 1 Company of the contingent. Two pictures appear showing the dnmage caused by the recent great fire nt Whangarei, as well as a number of other views of general interest. Altogether the number is one of the most attractive yet issued, and will bo found to 7 he a most suitable one for posting to friends . abroad by the outgoing 'Frisco mail.
