DEVON PORT BOROUGH COUNCIL
Tib ordinary meeting of the Devonport Borough Council was held last evening in the Council Chambers. There were present: Mr. J. 0. Macky (the Mayor), and Messrs. 0. Mays, R. Logan, jun., J. Dunning, W. Handley, Malcolm Niccol, R. H. Duder, and J. C. Entrican. Tlio minutes of the ordinary meeting of the 10th inst. were road and confirmed. Correspondence: Mr. Vickerman wrote re water used for concrete works and defence purposes. It was agreed to supply water at £60 per annum. Mr. J. Rendell wrote asking for a rebate on his water rate, staling that his property had been unoccupied for some months. The application was refused, letters were received from the Auckland Gas Company, stating that the Council's request ie supply of tar would receive their attention, and from Messrs. Devoro and Cooper, ? forwarding a lease to Mr. Parsons for execution. A letter from Mr. J. W. Jobson • re fencing in Church-street was referred to the Streets and Works Committee. Mr. C. E. Paget wrote, asking for a permit to remove a building in Brick Bay to a site in the , Bear Gardens. It was resolved to ask for plans and specifications. Building Permit: A building permit was granted to Miss Banks for the erection of a cottage in Lake Road, on the favourable re- 1 £ port of the building inspector. Jv■ By-laws: Mr. Metcalfe forwarded a copy of a new drainage by-law founded on the \ Adelaide City system. M;.-- Foreman's Report: The foreman reported 7?'- that it would cost £277 12s 6d to form and metal the road at Stanley Point, commencing . at Brick Bay gate and ending at the fence, • and that it would cost £219 to form a road . 42ft in width through Mr. Logan's property, SftSfir and metal same. The report was adopted. ' Gorso Nuisance: In answer to the Mayor, the town clerk said that notices had been sent £i;''v to several property-holders to cut tho lino of gorso on their respective frontages. ■ Rangitoto Domain Board: A letter was re"kht ceived from Lawrie ' Brothers, stating that ■: offing to the Board raising the price of scoria from 3d to 6d per cubic yard, they wore unlivable to fulfil a contract, to supply twr moro loads, and asked for a supply at .the old price. i 'It was -agreed •to allow them to carry, cut, $ y .;v ik«r contraot at the former price. • ....
