PARLIAMENTARY NEWS.
[by telegraph.— correspondent.] Wellington, Wednesday. PETITIONS. Mr. Lawry .(for Sir G. M. O'Rorke) presented a petition to-day from the trustees of the Dilworth Ulster Institute, praying that they may be reimbursed the sum of £2199, which they have paid over and above the costs awarded to them by the Privy Council in defending the property entrusted to them and recovering the large sums extracted for legacy and stamp duty and land : ax ' McGowan presented a petition 10m C. A, Comes, of Karangahake, rc application for a freehold. The Public Petitions Committee have no recommendation to make on the petition of J. J. O'Donoghue, for compensation foi loss of office as warder or on the petition of W. N. DeL. Willis and others, for Bible-reading in public schools, /he committee refer to the Government for favourable consideration the petition of Rose \t hite, of Auckland, for a compassionate allowance. On the petition of Seagar Biothers, of Auckland, for a rebate of Customs duty on certain parts of a rivettins machine, the committee report that having viewed similar machinery working they are of opinion that the parts for which Customs duty has been charged are part and parcel of the one machine, and recommend that the prayer of the petitioners be granted. THE WAITEMATA ELECTORATE. Mr. Monk madq a strong appeal to-day for justice to his district in the way of expenditure on public works. He hoped that further provision would be made on the supplementary Estimates. He also urged that provision should be made for a road between Port Fitzroy and Trypliena Bay, Great Barrier. This would be of use both to the settlers and the minine industry. b ' THE SLAUGHTERING BILL. This measure was mentioned in the House to-day. The Premier said he would like to ask the chairman of the Stock Committee when the Bill would be brought down. Mr. Lawry: "I think next session sir, (Laughter.) The committee will not have time to deal with such an important measure this session. THE 'FRISCO SERVICE. Mr. Witheford has received another cable from Mr. Spreckels, of the Oceanic Steamship Company of San Francisco, stating that they are desirous of an early answer to their offer. Mr. \\ itheford intends to meet the Auckland members to-morrow afternoon, and discuss the question with them. '
