AUCKLAND AMATEUR OPERA CLUB.
The inclemency of the weathei seemed to j in no way affect the attendance at the Opsr<« j House last night, for a very large audience &gain witnessed the performance of "Dow- | thy" by. the Auckland Amateur Opera Cluo. j Our amateurs arc certainly to be congratu- , lated upon the very excellent way in which • they have mounted and dressed this opera, j and the performance is a credit to all concerned. The attention to detail, the harmonising of colours, and the handsome costumes worn by both principals and chorus show that the club have spared neither expense nor trouble to create spectacular effect, and (lie taste displayed' by the costumiers, j Madam Tutsclika, calls for much common- , . datum. Last night all the principal vooal j efforts received encores, and most of the ficloists were recipients of handsome bouquets an l baskets of flowers. Especial mention ehculd be made of the dancing, much of the credit of which is due to Miss Ptilce Dunningham, who both arrar" 1 ' 1 «nd instructed the pretty ballets introduced. "The Ga>oi.N" in Act 11. and "The Bridesmaid's Skirt Dance" arc both striking features, and the Pretty colouring worked with the limelight > considerably enhance the effect, and repetition • is nightly insisted upon. Hie opera is to 1 be staged for two more nights only, and the opportunity should not be missed of witnessing what is undoubtedly one of the club 9 . frost succcssful productions. |
