LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL APPOINTEMENTS.

[by jßAFH.—phess association.] Wellington, Monday. A difficulty has arisen in connection with ihe appointments, the precise nature of which is not disclosed. The Cabinet sat on Sunday till past midnight, but no decision was arrived at.

The Times states that this difficulty was with the Governor, but this the Premier says is not correct, and lie says there was no hitch in that direction. The Cabinet met again to-day. In order to get over the difficulty of having no Minister to meet the Council to-day, the Hon. Mr. Walker resigned on Saturday, and was reappointed, and was sworn in this morning.

The Hon. Mr. Walker's resignation and reappointment to the Legislative Council were formally gazetted this morning, and in the evening a Gazette extraordinary was issued, reappointing the following members, whose term of office expired yesterday: Messrs. Bolt, Feldwick, Jennings, Kelly, Kerr, and Montgomery. The remaining three, whose term also expired yesterday, viz., Messrs. Richardson, MacGregor. and McCtillough, have not been reappointed. There are no new appointments.

[by TELEGRAM.SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wei.i.i.vgto.v, Monday. As predicted, only seven out of the ten vacancies in the Legislative Council have been filled. Of the other three. Mr. MacGregor had intimated that lie did not desire reappointment, but Messrs. McCullough and Richardson were ready to resume their legislative duties. There has been a lot of talk about serious friction between the Governor and the Premier, but the promptness with which seven of the vacancies have been filled shows that there was little ground for such rumour.
