MATCH AGAINST SOUTH OS ENGLAND. ENGLISHMEN BAT FIRST. ALL OUT FOR 246. AUSTRALIANS LOSE TWO WICKETS FOR 35. By Telegraph.— Association.— Copyright. London, May 8. The match, South of England v. Australia, bccran at the Crystal Palace to-day. The weather was bright and sunny, and the wicket fast. The following are the teams: — South of England: Grace, Townsend, Pry, Jessop, Hayward, Loekwood, Brockwell', Board, Mason, Ranjitsinhji, and Abel. Australia: C. Hill, J. J. Kelly, F. A. Iredale, M. A. Noble, J. Darling, J. Worrall, H. Tnimble, S. E. Gregory, E. Jones, 0. E. McLeod, and F. Lavor. Biockwell was chosen in place of Hearne in the South of England team, and Howell, Trumper, and Johns stood out of the Australian team. Grace, who captained the Englishmen, won the toss, and elected to bat, Jones and Noble taking up the attack. The first wicket fell for 11 runs, and the second for 20. Brockwell was neatly taken in the slips. McLeod took up the bowling at 43, and rumble at 55, Jones going on again at 69, at the other end. Fry played a brilliant innings. The South of England team were all disposed of for 246. The seventh South of England wicket fell for 166 runs, the eighth for 194, and the ninth for 207. Fry, who was caught in the slips, batted for two hours. His score included 10 fours. The following are the scores: — SOUTH OF ENGLAND.— Innings. Jones, 4 wickets for 78 runs. Noble, 2 for 52. McLeod, 1 for 29. Trumble, 2 for 63. Layer, 0 for 15. The fielding of the Australians was good, Laver doing magnificent work at point. Loekwood, wlio carried his bat out for 41, was in forty minutes. No exception was taken to Jones' delivery, which at times bumped dangerously. Jine attendance was good, and the weather fine.
