THE SHIP LOCH SLOY WRECKED.
MANY LIVES LOST. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCES OF THE SURVIVORS. By Telegraph..—Press Association.— Copyright. Adelaide, May 9. A hoy named May has arrived at Cape Uorda, from Rocky River. He states that the ship Loch Sloy was wrecked on the south coast, near Brothers Island, on the morning of April 24. . Ono of the crew, who reached the island, states all on board were lost, except one passenger and three members of the crew. Tho passengers numbered 54 all told.
Assistance is being sent. The details of the disaster, so far are extremely meagre. Uno of the crew managed to reach the Capo Bordu ligninouse in an exhausted condition. It is feared that the others will not survive their wanderings in the wild country, the scene of the week being at the extranco to tho Gulf of St. Vincent. A tug has been despatched in search of the survivors. Tho Australian passengers by the vessel are Robert Logan Leicester and wife, Mrs. Cartlidge, and George Lamb, and for Dunedin, David Kilpatrick. The vessel was commanded by Captain Niccol. Later. The Loch Sloy was bound from Glasgow to Melbourne with general cargo. The Loch Sloy was an iron barque built in 1877, by D. and W. Henderson, of Glasgow, and was owned by the Glasgow Shipping Company (Aitken, Lilburn, and Co., managers), and sailed from Glasgow for Port Adelaide and Melbourne on January 5 last. Her dimensions wero as follow : Length, 225,5 ft; breadth, 35.6 ft; depth, 21.2 ft ; tonnago, 1225.
