WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Wnilemata County Council, hold yesterday at the offices, Palmerston Buildings, Queen-street, was attended by Messrs. O'Neill (chairman), McKay, Sinclair, Bruce, Hatfield, Wilson, Cochran, Newman, and Reynolds. Compensation: Mi. Joseph Hewson applied for compensation for some 4£ acres of land taken under the Public Works Act. His claim was for £15. The Council, howevei, voted £10, that, being in proportion to the value on the roll anu cost of fencing. Stone-breaking Machine; Mr. P. Pouchy offered to lend the Council for £55 per annum his steam engine and stone-breaker, now at work for the county in the Takapuna Hiding, or else to sell the plant outright for £320. The Council declined both offers. Hellyer's Creek Landing Reserve: Mr. Dawson, in reply to a resolution of the Council passed at last meeting, instructing him to clear tlio old road of all obstructions, waited upon the Council, and offered to take £12 as compensation lor improvements made by him' upon a deviation of the road through his land. The Council agreed, and ihus settled a grievance of long standing. Kahikatca Flat: Mi. John Hawks applied for a road connecting this flat with the main road tc Wainui and Kaukapakapa. The Council decided to do the work on condition that the land was given free of cost, Finance: Accounts to the extont of £720 j 9s lid were passed fo> payment. The Lands j and Survey Department intimated that the , following grant?, in addition to those cf j which the Council had already been advised, i would be handed over to the Council for ; expending:—Dairy Flat-Lucas Creek Road, i £200; Wainui-Ivaukapakapa Railway Station i Road, £200; Henderson Road, £50; Swanson- ' West Coast Road, £100; Ilonderson-West' Coast Road, £100 Birkenhead-Out Hill Road, £250. _ ; Greenhithe Wharf: An application from the settlers to commute the special rate in , connection with this wharl (payable for 10 years) to a cash payment of £25 was deferred for consideration till the next meeting. County Engineer: Mr. 11. M. Wilson applied for an addition to his salary, in consequence of the large increase in the surveying and engineering work of the county. On the motion of M.. Newman, seconded by Mr. Hatfield, the Council unanimously voted an increase of £50 per annum. Helensville: The Town Board applied for a contribution from the county towards the cost of a new bridge near Messrs. Stewart Brothers' store at Helensville. The matter was deferred for a report as to the cost. Bridges, Albany-Wade Road- It was resolved that the engineer report on the cost of rebuilding the main bridge on this road, and also of a smaller one near Mayfield. Rewiti Road: Mr. W. W. Phillipps asked the Council to survey and make a deviation of this road through the property of Mr. D. McDonald, the applicant to pay for the land required. The Council agreed to the proposal. Kaukapakapa: The local Board wrote asking for two culverts on the county road. This was referred to Mr. Sinclair, wth pr wcr to act. Henderson Valley Road: It was resolved, at the request of (lie ettlers, to have tie swampy part of this road near Woodward's raised and facinod before the winter fets in. Tendors: The following tenders were accepted :—Constructing bridges and culverts, Wainui-Kaukapukapa Road, Mr. J. P. Ling, £183 159 6d; pipe-claying 20 chains of the Wade-Uppei Orcwn Road, Mr. John Hawks, £48 10s; supplying scoria for 12 months at Takapuna and Northcote, Mr. S. H. Burningham, 2s 4d per yard undei one mile, 2s lOd one mile and under two, 3s 6d two miles a;.d not over three.
