[BI TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent.] Paeroa, Friday. The Mimes Department has informed the local Council that the following sums have been authorised for payment on the undermentioned roads:Netlierton Road, £45; Hikutaia-Waihi Road, £121 16s Id; Kaimanawa Road, £30 7b ; Mangaiti and Waitoa Road and punt, £77 13s 9d; Irenga-Oinore Road. £52; Puke-Paeroa punt, £70; Hiku-taia-Waitekauri Road, £537 17b 4d; PaeroaWaitoa Road, £50; Waitekauri-Golden Cfosa Road, £484 14s 6d; Grace Darling Road, £1.72. After consideration of the question of allowing house connections with the water supply mains on the goldfields townships, the Water Supply Committee reported to the Ohinemuri Count} Council last night as follows :" That in the case of the Waitekauri and Karanagahake townsliips the Council be recommended to grant the required permission for domestio supply on the following lines: (1) That not less than 12 applications from each townqjiip must come in, and charges for 12 months in advance be paid, as well as all costs of connections; (2) that the charges be the same as for the Paeroa water supply, and all costs of the work to be paid, with the charges, in advance; (3) that the connections with tho mains be only made by persons authorised by the Council. With regard to the Waihi water supply, the committee cannot recommend that house connections should be allowed, as it would be a breach of the Council's arrangement with the Waihi Company," Tho report (fas adopted. In response to a request from Waitoa settlers, the Ohinemuri County Council has granted a portion of its reserve at Mangaiti for the erection of a creamery— is, provided the grant can be made legally. A number of hawkers travelling in the Ohinemuri district of late have created a great deal of dissatisfaction among the local business people, and as a result of an agitation the County Counoil has decided to increase the hawker's license fee from £1 to £5. At the meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council last night it was decided that a sum not exceeding £30 be expended on the Pee-roa-Waitoa Road, near Mr. W. Tetley's, | tenders to bo returnable in 14- days. With regard to providing the residents of Irishtown (Karangahake), who are living on the south side of the river, with water, it was agreed that a 2in pipe be put across the bridge, and a connection made with it. Th» question of erecting the Grace Darling Bridge was ollowod to stand over for two months. The residents of Karangahake petitioned the Counoil re the water supply, and also asked for an extension. The matter was left in the hands of a committee to deal with. With regard to the readjustment of representation, further consideration was deferred until next meeting. A letter was read from the manager of the Waihi. Silverton Company, Asking that tho toad leading down to the battery be metalled. - The letter was : received, but nothing was done, as the road was part of the Silverton Company's property, not a public road. Re the question of providing more gas -lamps for Paeroa, it was decided that a committee consisting of the P&eroa members and Mr. McClelland be appointed to see how five more lamps Could he advantageously erected in Paeroa, and report to aext meeting. |
