THE MOUNT EDEN 'BUSES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—May I ask whether there is. a. transit commission in Auckland; if not, which body is responsible for the regulation of vehicular traffic. There seems to be every prospect of an oarly tost as to who is liable in caso of accidents to travellers by omnibus, at all events on the Mount Eden line. Might I venture to suggest to the proprietor of the lino of omnibuses carrying the name Paterson on the door that he should take measures to provide for the safety of people • using his vehicles. If for financial reasons he finds it inadvisable to forbid his drivers to race, and to shepherd a rival omnibus, does he realise the risk to which ho exposes the travelling public? Tho reckless driving of one of his men on Saturday evening last was scandalous. He may be a good whip, but accidents happen to tho smartest of thcin. Collision or upset may bo avoided, as much by good luck as good management, but how about accidents through fright. Seated next to me in one omnibus leaving Mount Eden at seven p.m. on Saturday was a woman with an infant in her arms; terrified at the lurious driving of tho vehicle behind us, sho attempted to rush out of tho 'bus. The other passengers prevented her from doing so. Had she been alone there would have been a nasty accident. Surely tho safety of tho passengers should bo valued at a, higher rate than ail oxtra 3d fare— am, etc., Visitor.
