ST. JAMES' CHURCH.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the congregation of St. flames' Presbyterian Church took place last night at St. .lames' Hall, Wellingtonstreet, the Rev. 11. F. Macnieol presiding. Reports from tho kirk session, presented by Mr. Richardson; from the Committee of Management, by Mr. 1). McXab; and from tho Sunday-school, by Mr. 15. McKerrus, wero read. These wore of a favourable nature, and showed that a largo amount of work had been done in tho different organisations connected with the church during the past year. Sir. A. J. Entriean, the treasurer, reported that last year was entered upon with £1 0 9d in hand, and outstanding liabilities amounting to £78 Os 9d. The receipts for 1898 wero £704 9s Bd, and there was a balance of £3 12s 7d in hand, with outstanding liabilities amounting to £13. Tho sum of £50 (a donalion) had been placed to a separate account, to defray the cost of cleaning the inside of tho church. The finances wero in a very j much more satisfactory stale than they were last year, and he congratulated the congregation on the position of affairs. The hall debt amounted to £640, the sum of £10 having boon [laid off during tho year. Mr. EnIrican regretted that only some £13 had been collected for the city mission. Oil tho motion of Sir. Richardson, seconded by Sir. Brownlee, the reports and balance-sheets wero received. The retiring officers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks, on tho motion of ill-. Robert i-'arrell, who spoko very appreciatively of the good management that had marked the affairs of tho church. The Rev. Hugh Kelly, M.A., delivered one of his characteristic addresses during the evening, and ot intervals the choir gave several anthems, Mr. Walton being at tho harmonium. At tho close of the. business pari of the meeting Mr. Enlriean mado a presentation on behalf of the .Sunday-school teachers to Mr. l-ees, I who had been intimately Connected with the M-hoc'. In handing Mi. Lees a handsome silver-mounted baton, Mr. Entriean said the recipient had taken a great (lea! of interest in the singing of the school, and its success was chiefly due to his care and attention in training the. children. Unfortunately he wa« going to live at the North Shoie in futuie, and so St. .fames' would lose him. Sir. Lees thanked the teachers in a few words. Refreshments wero partaken of before tho gathering broke up..
