OTAGO BANKRUPTCY STATISTICS.

[BY TELEOBArH.—rIIESS ASSOCIATION.] Drxr.niN, Monday. The bankruptcy statistics for Otago for 1898, show that' there were 55 bankruptcies on petitions of debtors, and 13 adjudications on petitions of creditors. Thirty-two orders for immediate discharge were granted, and in nine cases the orders for discharge were suspended. The total amount of unsecured liabilities involved in tho above bankruptcies was £32,550 8s 9d, against which there were unsecured assets to the amount of £17,862 9s 3d. Tho secured assets amounted to £20.729 12s lOd, and assets other than secured, realised £7546 10s Bd. Debts proved amounted to £140,425 4s Id. During the year £4502 lis was paid in dividends, but this does not refer exclusively to estates which came into the assignee's hands since January 1, 1898.
