-\OItTHEUN WAIROA REGATTA. Tho public meeting held to consider tho holding of the 1899 regatta was largely attended in the Aratipu Rink. It was decided to hold the festival about January 28. either at Aratapu or Te Kopuru. A committco was elected, and further details left to them for arrangement. Very much of tho success of the. last regatta was duo to the energy displayed by Mr. Hammond, tho secretary, and although he desired to bo relieved of the position, tho meeting persistently called upon him to again accept the position, which lie subsequently consented to do. Before last March we had been without a regatta for years, and the public seemed slow in inking on with (hem, but on that occasion Mr. Hammond carried through a most successful and interesting programme, in spite of a lack of wind. Such a noble river as ours merits a monster regatta.—[Own Correspondent.]
