NEW ZEALAND TALISMAN.

THE STEAM AUXILIARY PLANT. It will be remembered that after the experience of the last dry season the Talisman Gold Mining Company decided tc erect an auxiliary steam plant, so that the battery would not be hung up during the summer months on account of scarcity of water. An 80 horse-power engine and boiler have now been placed in position, and will be completed and able to work within a month. This will enable the company to continue regular crushings, md will prevent the recurrence of any of the irritating delays that occurred during the last dry season.

Work on the above company's property is progressing satisfactorily. From the footwall stopes, No. 1 block, excellent ore was won in the early part of the week, though at present it is poorer again, the country encasing lead being most unfavourable for working and gold. In the Royal Oak crosscut another stringer lias been cut, and it is intended to open out on both these as soon as tho drive reaches the boundary. At the Rainbow end lead, a little gold has been seen during the week. No. 3 level is now in 512 ft, and the country is much harder and progress slower.

CO. No further details arc to hand regarding the raising of further capital for the continuation of work on the above company's property, and the erection of the crushing plant, which, as before stated, is to consist of Krnpjp mills. It is not anticipated that any difficulty will be experienced in raising the necessary capital, as the prospects of the property are said to have improved considerably of late.

! ROYAL STANDARD G.M. CO. A rumour was yesterday current to the effect that the development work on the above company's property had resulted so unsatisfactorily that the directors had decided not to continue operations. In the absence of the representatives of the company, who are at the mine at Wliarikirauponga, it was impossible yesterday to obtain any official information as to the future intentions of the company. When the company's attorney was last in Auckland, however, he was seen by a Hkrald reporter, and lie informed our representative that it v as intended to raise an additional £15,000, for the puirpose of opening up the mine, and proceeding with the orection of a crushing plant, so the probabilities are that there is no truth in the rumour. EXPERIMENTAL CRUSHINGS TO COMMENCE THIS MONTH. The erection of the five-stamper battery on the above company's property lias been practically completed, and it is expected that crushing operations will be commenced about the middle of this month. A few details have yet to be attended to, but the battery should soon bo working. The ore will be crushed wet. It is not intended to commence permanent crushing operations 5 a series of 1 experiments arc to be conducted under the superintendence of Messrs. A. P. and H. D. Griffiths until the most efficacious method of treating the ore has been decided upon, when, it is understood, the crushing capacity of the battery will be increased, and permanent milling operations proceeded with.
