MEETINGS AND ENTERTAINMENTS.
An entertainment promoted by the teachers and eoholars of the Ellerslie school for the purposo of providing funds fo; school prizes took place on Wednesday evening in Cairns' If all, Ellerslie. In the absence of Mr. MoWilliams, Chairman of the School Committee, who was unable to be present, Mr. C. S. MoKinney presided, ■ Pianoforte solos were played by Miss Ida Ruddie and Master Austin. Miss Richardson, one of tho teachers, sang "The Blind* Girl to Her Harp" and " Tho Fairies," several little girls posing for tho latter song. Several rounds were given by the older scholars under tho conductorship of Mr. Lillington, the head-teachor, and were heartily applauded. Various original imitations on tho English concertina wore olovorly executed by Mr. Lillington, such as the skylark, tuning violin, bagpipes, etc. Dialogues, jokes, etc., by the scholars completed the programme, after which a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Lillington and those who assisted him in providing the evening's amusement was carried with applause. Tho anniversary of the Waterview Primitive Methodist Church was celebrated on Wednesday evening with a soiree and concert. Despite the unpropitious weather, a largo number of persons attended, there being two sittings at tho tea-tables, which wero well laden with tho choicest provisions, and superintended by Mrs. Wilson, Missos Thomas (2), Wilson (2), Mander (2), Sanson, and others. At the conoort which followed tho church was crowdod. Tho Kev. J. Sharp occupied t.io chair, and musical selections, vocal and instrumental, were efficiently rendered by Mrs. Walker, Misses Mander, Bluck, Bollard, Eyes, F. Sanson, Tattou (2), Thomas and party, Messrs. Duckcr, Astloy, A. Bollard, S. Astley, and H. Burrows. Recitations were given by Messrs. R. Walker and G. Arnold. An original humorous reading was given by Mr. P. Mandor. Mr. Mander kindly lont the piano for tho occasion.
The Mount Albert. Literary and Debating Society terminated a most successful session ,on Monday evening last. Miss Priestley, in a resumo of the session, emphasised the fact that the session had been one of the most successI ful since its organisation. This, she said, was mainly attributable to the sustained interest of tho president (Mr. T. C. Sohnackonberg). The following programme was admirably rendered:—Quartette, "Spring's Delights," Messrs. S. T. Astley and S. C. Priestley (Mount Albert Quartette Club), T. 0. Schnackenberg, S. J. Harbutt; song, Miss fipragg; review, Miss Priestley; song, Mr. T. C. Solmaekenborg (president); recitation. " The Hostage," Mr. Thomas Wobb; song, Mrs. Caughey; reading, Mr. 8. E. Priestley; character sketch by members, "The Lite of a Photographer;" piano solo, Miss Jamos; quartette, "Music in the Air," club; song, Mr. W. Astley; tableaux, with graphophonio accompaniment; vocal duet, Mrs. Caughey and Mr. T. 0. Sohnackcnberg; song. Mr. Ducher (encored); trio, Messrs. F. Astley, S. T. .Astley, and T. C. Schnackenborg (encored); song, Miss Allison; quartette, " Good-night," by the club.
