THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL.

At tho monthly meeting of the Thames County Counoil this evening, a letter was read from tho Railways Department, staling that tho Council's application for tho running of a weekly or fortnightly luggago train to Farawai station had boon roferred by tho Minister for Railways to the Fublio Works Department lo deal with. Tho printed reports of Messrs. Geo. Wilson and Perham, of tho Minos Department, bearing upon tho proposed now low levol watcr-rnco scheme, were read, and the chairman (Mr. T. A. Dunlop) and Mr. Corbctt commented in advoreo terms on tlio unsatisfactory nature of Mr. Wilson's report, tho former stating tLat Mr. Wilson had done the district no good. Mr. James, attorney and general manager for the New Alburnia Gold Mining Company, mado application for tho repair of tho Moanalaiari Creek Road, leading up to tlio Sons of Freedom level, and the matter was referred to the Water-race Committee and Mr. Ross to report upon. Mr. F. Whalloy, of the Hauraki Peninsula Exploration Company, made application for tho repair of the road leading from tlio Whaugamata landing to tho smithy at Prince Charlie mine, and it was resolved that when the grant of money promised by Government towards tho co3t of the work came to hand, the request should be complied with. Tho chairman (Mr. T. A. Dunlop) presented his usual annual statement dealing with all the worke carried out by the Council during tho past 12 months. Special roferenco was mado to the road works accomplished in tlie various ridings of the county, and also to the large amount of repairs carried out in connection with the county water-race, but tho revenue from the latter, it was stated, had not realised expectations, owing to the depression in the mining industry. The actual receipts to the j county fund during tho year wore stated to i have been £12,133 8s sd, but, in addition io I this, was a credit balance brought forward, which made a total of £15,618 lls 4d; whilst tho total expenditure amounted to £14,568 16s lid, thus leaving a oredit balance of £1049 14s sd. The water-race revenue account showed that the 6um of £1295 8s 7d had leen received as receipts for watei supplied. TLis had been supplemented by a oredit balance of £4.14 Is from tho previous year, and, with a sum of £1098 4b 8d transferred from the county fund, made a total of £2807 Us 3d; whilst the total expenditure had been £2764 16s 4d, leaving a credit balance of £42 17s lid. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Dunlop for the completeness of his statement.
