AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET.

The market yesterday was quiet, and few sales were reported. ■ In standard stocks, New Zealand Insurance finned, and were inquired for at £3 3s and £3 3s 6d, sellers declining to quote at less than £3 6s. South j Britishs were asked for at £2 9s 6d, but the ! lowest quoted seller held for £2 lis 6d. Buyers came in for New Zealand and River Plates and offered 16s, but sellers wanted 17s. Auckland Gas (new issue) were wanted at £9 10s, and Thames Gas could have been placed at £1 15s, but sellers declined business at buyers' quotations. Sharland and Co.'s dropped, and could have been purchased at i 12s 6d, but there was no demand at that i figure. Hikurangi Coals were done at 9s 9d, ! and at the close were in good demand at 9s I6d, sellers asking 10s. In mining, Barrier Reefs finned, and buyers rose from Is 4d at ' first call to 2s '!c at the close, sellers declining to quote. Barrier Gold and Silvers were wanted at 2s Id, but sellers declined to accept less than 2s 4d. Grand Junctions showed an advance, buyers advancing from 15s to 16s, but sellers still declined to accept l'fs ! than 17s 6d. Waitekauris were in demand 1 at £1 2s 6d, Crowns at 16s 6d, Talismans at I9s 6d, and Alphas at 2s Id. VVaihi Consols were done at 2Jd, and in Thames lines, New Alburnias were placed at Is lid. At the close there were sellers of tlie latter at the purchasing price quoted atove, but buyers declined to give more than Is 6d. Victorias were exchanged at 3Jd, and other lines were easier.

I BULLION SHIPMENT.

The National Bank of New Zealand shipped to Sydney by the Westralia, yesterday, 1 for transhipment to London, six boxes containing bullion valued at £6550. VICTORIA G.M. CO. THE QUESTIOT~OF TRIBUTES. The directors of the Victoria Gold Mining Company have decided to let tributes below the surface levels, and it is probable that other companies may follow £iit. So far as the Victoria is concerned, the action of ; the directors may be looked upon as being practically equivalent to throwing open the whole mine for tribute purposes. The conditions of tribute are to remain as before. [ WOODSTOCK G.M. CO. 668 TONS YIELD £804. The return for the four weeks ending August 13 is £804 from 668 tons. Owing to the erection of floor, etc., for the concentrating plant, it has not been possible to keep the stampers running steadily. Work with the two trial concentrators was also suspended, as the machines had to be moved to make ari rangements for the installation of the vanners ■ to arrive from San Francisco next week. The I floor, which had to be built with necessary i counter-shafting and gear, will be ready by i the end of this week for reception of the new machines on arrival, and every effort will be made to get them to work promptly, ■ GRAND JUNCTION. ANOTHER LODE INTERSECTED. [BY TELEGRAPH-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waiiii, Monday. On Saturday forenoon the Grand Junction ' struck a lode in the western section at about : 300 ft down. [by TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] COROMANDEL, Monday. east hauraki. ; This company had a trial crushing of five | tons of general ore, with the very encouraging result of 15oz. This is very satisfactory, , when it is remembered that a parcel of speci- ; mens picked out of the ore lias been sent to I the London directors. The reef from which I the ore was taken is fully Ift thick, and it is ' fairly easy to work. The mine is situated in the Tokatea range, and is in close vicinity to the Hauraki Associated reefs, Thames, Monday. ORLANDO. A crushing of one load of quarto from this company's mine lias been completed for a yield of 13oz 13dwt retorted gold, of the total value of £42 4s lOd. MOANATAIARI. Operations in this mine on the company's behalf arc now confined to driving on the eastern course of the Cambria reef at the Cumbria old No. 4 level. This point is situated at the top of the rise carried'upward from the company's No. 3 level a short time ago, and is in the old Darwin section. The object in view is to test the value of the reef in its eastward course at the level mentioned. At present the hangingwall section of the reef only is being carried along, but tire full size of the reef is from Bft to 10ft. The work is being pushed ahead with the aid of the rock-drill, and, as three shifts are employed, very good headway is being made. The stoping operations that were proceeding on Hie same reef, westward of the rise, at the back of No. 3 level, were suspended on Saturday last, and the men discharged, and in consequence crushing operations have been suspended at the company's battery. It may be stated, that although 'the company has so greatly curtailed its operations there 'are still fully 30 tributers at work in the mine.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.

Albert (Tairua, August 13): Distance <f 167 ft driven in crosscut. In this direction (lie country penetrated shows a marked improvement. In the No. 9 tunnel Rood class of sandstono is being met with. This level has been extended 67ft. Nonpareil (Thames, August 20): Drive east on Wndo .'ecf is now ill 100 ft from crosscut. Country of very light nature. Have not been successful in seeing any gold here during week. Tlio leading slope carried along 6ft, and in breaking down we saw some nice dabs of gold, and about lib of picked stone was selected. Welcome Find (Coromandel, August 19): No. 3 level—When last breaking down cross leader saw little gold, and blotches have also been found in Just-in-Time No. 1 lode at junction. Fine looking lode here 12in in width. South-western drive, No. 3 level— driving a short distance in footwall, wo found the lode which bsfore appeared to be cut off. Promising lodn about 18in wide. Winze on southern lode is down 46ft. OTAGO GOLD DREDGING. [dy telegraph.— association.] Dunedin, Monday. The following dredging returns are to hand: -Upper Waipori, 240z gold for 115 ''lours; Jutland Flat, 38oz Bdwt for 132 hours; Maniototo dredge, lffiioz 3dwt 12gr for 109 hours.
