MEETINGS AND ENTERTAINMENTS.

The anniversary. of the Mount Roskill Primitive Methodist ' Sunday-school was further celebrated on Tuesday evening with a public tea in the newly-erected church. An abundance of good things was provided by the ladies, and, after tea had been partaken of a public meeting, presided over by Mr, F. E. Taylor, was hold. Addresses were delivered by the Revs. Ward, Wilson, and Hall, and Messrs. Goldie and Bennett; excellent musical- items by the children being interpolated.' A meeting of the journeymen bakers was held yesterday in the. Tailoresses' Hall, Cook-street. ' There was a' large attendance of the trade. Mr. James Regan dotailed the results of the interview with the master bakers on Wednesday last, which was of a most' satisfactory nature. Ib was decided at that meeting that tho secretary of the Master Bakers' Association should write to all the employers in Auckland, requesting them to bring into operation the concessions given to the men, on the 6th instant, the date on which the price of bread was raised. The president and the secretary were appointed to visit all the bakery firms in Auckland and invite all those whohad not come into the arrangement to do so. The journeymen bakers are greatly pleased at the improvement in their condition.

A sale of work took place yesterday afternoon in tho Pict-stroet Church schoolroom, in connection with the Ladies' Auxiliary of the, Foreign Missionary Society, of which Miss Caley is president, aud Miss Mabel Reid secretary- The ladies assisting were Mesdames Williams, Craig, Hooper, and Burrage. The stalls were filled with children's clothing and plain and fancy needlework. The refreshment stall was presided over by, Mrs. W. D, Buddie, assisted by Mrs. Fordham and Kate Reid. In the evening vocal items were contributed by Misses Reid and Powell and Mr. James; instrumental selections were rendered by Mrs. Turner and Miss Wiseman. There was a good attendance, and a fair business was done. The proceeds go to the New Guinea and New Britain mission,

The adjourned meeting of the Auckland branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union took place yesterday afternoon at the Y.M.C.A. Booms, the business being the election of officers, , The following were elected for the ensuing year .--President, Miss Brown; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Garland; recording secretary, Mrs. Plummer; and Mrs. Davis, treasurer. Mrs. Plummet was appointed delegate to the convention of the organisation to be held at Napier in February next. , The usual monthly committee meeting of the New Zealand Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held in the Society's office on Tuesday. Thero were present Mr. Wilding (in the chair), Mrs, Main, Captain Sparks, Rabbi Goldstein, Messrs. Baker and Fowlds. The Secretary's report showed ' that ;J 21 " cases had '• come under the society's notice since tho last meeting, only three of these had been brought before the Court. Long letters were read from Lord Ranfurly relative to the formation of, a National Society to embrace the whole colony, the consideration of which was referred to a special meeting to be held on Tuesday next. It was reported that letters had been received from Lady (Stout, hon. [secretary, pro fcem. showing that they had got to work. . The annual meeting of the Auckland Builders' Association was held yesterday afternoon at. their offices, Victoria Arcade, Mr. John McColl (President) in the chair. The annual reports were submitted by the secretary and treasurer, both of which showed the Association to be in a very flourishing condition. The member's roll numbers upwards of 50 members, and the financial statement showed a substantial balance in the bank to tho Association's credit. Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing officers, and Mr. John McColl was re-elected president for the ensuing year. Mr. George Rhodes was also re-elected secretary, and Mr. J. Ellingham was appointed treasurer. The members present resolved unanimously to hold their annual picnic early in February.. General congratulations' were expressed at the satisfactory condition of the building trade in Auckland, and especially at' the good feeling existing between employers and employees, The sale of work at All Saints Schoolroom, promoted by Mesdames Calder and Upton, and the ladies of the Melanesian Sewing Bee, proved very successful, the takings amounting to £40. The stalls were presided over by the following ladies: Melanesia, Misses Upton and Dod«on; Torres Island, Misses Kelly and Fielder; domestic stall, Mesdames Douglas and McClure; general stall, Mesdames Atkinson and Montague ; lollie stall, Misses Ponsford and Lusher; refreshment stall, Mesdames Bedford and Osmond.

The Christmas tree and sale of work. organised by St. Mark's Guild to open the new parish hall was brought to a conclusion last evening, and the success of the affair may be gathered from the fact that nearly £80 'was raised. In the evening there was a crowded attendance. Tableaux arranged by Miss Cochrane;' musical items by the Remuera orchestra, conducted by Miss Louie Pickmere, ' and a character' song, "Where' Are You Going To My Pretty Maid?" by Miss Brown, 'were given at intervals, and met with an enthusiastic reception. The electric dip, in charge of Mrs. Mercer, was ' a source of much speculation, and always had a crowd round it.
