BANKRUPTCY.
William Cowlet, late of Waihi and now cf Paterangi, miner, yesterday filed a petition to be adjudged a bankrupt. In a sworn statement made before the Official Assignee, the bankrupt stated he had 52 creditors, representing liabilities of £328 03 Id. His assets consisted of an interest in a leasehold farm at Paterangi, and a few articles of property, making a total of £74 ss. The bankrupt was unable to make any offer. At a meeting of creditors in the estate of Alfred Aldred, contractor, bankrupt,-oi Auckland, and late of Opu&whanga, held, yesterday at the Official Assignee's office Mr. J. Lawson presided, and the creditors represented were, Devore and Cooper, E. AHutchings, Paterson and Co., Smith aud Caughey, A. H. Nathan, Jos. Harrison, and J. Hodgson. The bankrupt was examined a* considerable length, and the following resolution was adopted: "That the Official Assignee be instructed to consult his solicitor with reference to taking action against tb« bankrupt under the penal clauses of the Acl (on bankrupt's sworn statement), and as to whether the estate can claim from Mr. Corns for a wagon and other articles given up to him, and on the proceeds of the hones sold by Mrs. Aldred or her agents. A special meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of J. Hogan (baker, Kuaotunu) took place yesterday. Mr. Lawson presided, and there were present the debtor aud Messrs. Lundon (his solicitor), Hall, Owen, and Mitchell, The statements made were deemed to be incomplete. The bankrupt was examined by the Official Assignee at length, and finally it was agreed, " That the debtor prepare a statement showing the amount of supplies received by him monthly in detail; the amount of bread supplied by him either for cash or on credit; the amounts .of payments made to him monthly in detail; also monthly expenses in detail. Such statement to date from December 1,1595."
