RAILWAY EXTENSION.
[by telegraph.— association.] Pauiatoa, Monday. Glorious weather prevailed for the opening of the railway. Over 2000 people assembled at the station, and a special train brought up another 1000, including tho Minister for Publio Works, Messrs. Hogg and O'Meara, M.H.R.'a, Ronayne, Blow, and others, of the Railway Department. The Mayor (Mr. Vile) read an address of welcome to Mr. Hall-Jones, and referred to the benefit the district would receive from the opening of the railway. Mr. Hall-Jones, in reply, expressed the belief that the opening would cause the district to progress more rapidly than in the past. The Minister and party were entertained ab luncheon, and the train left at 4.15 p.m. for Wellington.
