[M TELEGRAPH.—-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday. The tender of R. B. Martin, of Auckland, has been accepted for the Maritime Wharf. The Te Aroha drainage scheme has "been approved as recommended by Mr. Hay. The recommendations of the Commander of the Forces in respect of defence works ab Auckland are approved ; also his recommendations in respect of the storage of explosives imported by merchants and others. The Government has decided to give Mrs. Kenny, widow of the Post Office official at Newton, Auokland, a compassionate allowance equal to ohe year's salary. Mr. Holmes, auditor, is to be retired on the ground of ill health.
