CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
A meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Mr. B. Kenb (president), Messrs. M. A. Clark, Q. Aickin, J. Hall, 0. Soegner, and S. C. Johnson. Free Storage. — The President announced that the Harbour Board had rescinded its resolution abolishing free storage in their sheds for 24 hours. Telegrams.— unsatisfactory working of the new regulations for the transmission of telegram? was again under consideration. It was the opinion of the Council that the present system was the cause of greater delay in delivery, besides increasing the cost to twice the amount under the old system. The Council intend proceeding further in endeavouring to obtain an amelioration of the present position. JtffifES.—'the Bills at present before the House of Representatives regarding grand, Bpeoial, and common juries were considered to be entirely in the wrong direction, an:'. if carried, could only be productive of mum'ty. Jfurtficr consfrfcrutioti of tine matter was deferred till the next meeting of the Council. Qoahthrly Meeting.—lt was decided to hold the next quarterly mooting in fcbo second week in September.
