WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT,] Cambridge, Wednesday. Tub usual monthly meetings of the Wuipa County Council was held at Ohaupo yesterday, but the business was not of particular importance. All the members were present. The engineer reported on several small works completed and in progress. Mr. R. Kirkwood, Cambridge, wrote complaining of damage done to land belonging to Mrs. Kirkwood, at Te Awatmitu, through water from the comity road. It was resolved to inform Mr. Kirkwood that the Council accepted no responsibility, but at the same time the engineer was instructed to inform Mr. Cox, for whose convenience a cesspool had been constructed at this place that he must keep the drain and outlet pipes clear. A number of applications to change the names of occupiers of rateable lands in thecounty were read, and it was resolved to grant the requests in all cases provided the arrears of rates were paid. It was decided to appoint Mr. Lang, M.U.R., the Council delegate at th« forthcoming conference at Wellington. It was resolved to apply in terms of the form required by the bank for an overdraft up to £1500. The present overdraft is £719, but considerable amount of rates and whole of year's subsidy have yet to come in. On the motion of Mr. Finch it was agreed to re-deck the Ford bridge at Mangapiko, near Alexandra. It was resolved to give notice to owners of property in Hamilton district to remove furze from the roads, The chairman reported, that, in company with Mr. Teasdale, lid' had interviewed -the Minister for Lands, at Cambridge, on the subject of the Whatawhata swamp road. Mr. McKenzio made a promise that the Government would give some assistance, but he thought that as the most of the land affected hud been sold by the Crown the owners should also contribute. This, the chairman said, was only reasonable. The Minister asked that all information should be forwarded to Wellington, aud this will be done. It was resolved to give seven days' notiue to all ratepayers iu arrear as the Council are anxious not to lose a penny of the subsidy. Some .other unimportant business was done aud a number of accounts were passed for payment.
