BRUNNERTON EELIEF FUND.
Observing that a meetiug has been called at Wellington by the Premier in regard to the appointment ot trustees for the Brunnerton Relief Fund, Mr. Crowther, M.H.R. for Auckland, wired to Mr. Fisher, Mayor of Wellington, asking him whether he coincided with the Premier's suggestion oi holding a public meeting to arrange matters. He informed Mr. Fisher that Auckland objected. Telegrams have been received from the Mayors of Dunedin and Wellington, stating that iu their opinion the Municipal Conference which meets in Wellington in July should deal with the whole question, and Mr. Crowther entirely concurs in this idea. A committee of gentlemen in Otahuhu organised, and carried to a most successful issue, a social in aid of the fund at the Otahuhu Public Hall on Friday eveuiug last. There was a large attendance. Miss Hand of Helensville, Mr. A. Murphy of Auckland, with Mrs. Badlev, Miss Day, Messrs. Bailey and Haydon of Otahuhu, contributed songs; The Misses Bailey played some excellent pianoforte and violin music; Miss Chapman Misa Dam, Miss Little, and Mr. Dickey rendered good (service as pianoforte soloists and accompanists, and the Otahuhu Brass Band, under the leadership of Mr. S. Brown, kindly gave their aerpioes for the dance music. Mr. Rowe, chairman of the Social Committee, thanked all who had helped, and the audience for their attendance. He stated that as the expenses were almost nothing, he felt sure that a good round sum would accrue from this social for this deserving fund. The mouey made by this social will oe given to Mr. Sfcurces, the chairmau of the Road Board, who will hand it over to the Mayor ot Auokland, together with other sums collected in Otfthnhu by subscription lists.

Wellinuton, Saturday. Yesterday the toys sent by Canterbury children were distributed at Brunnertcm by the Mayor, assisted by several ladies. The pleasant smiles on the faces of the little recipients would have well repaid the little givers could they have but seen the children laden with toys returning to their mothers. Each child received a parcel of books and toys, whilst those children who weto not afflicted by the disaster received a small book as a memento of the sad occurrence. A vote of thanks and cheers were given for the Canterbury ohildren for the love, kindness, and sympathy shown.
