THE BARQUE WOOSUNG.
A LOMG TOW. Last night) the Union Company's steamer aviuni arrived from Tonga, having in tow the barque Woosung, The latter vessel, it will be remembered, waswreoked ab Haapai, Friendly Islands, in tho hurricano of January last, and was purchased by Mr. James Clare, formerly of Auckland, who subsequently succeeded In successfully oating tho vessel, and having accomplished necessary repairs, it was determined to send her on to Auckland. The woosung is an iron vessel, and does not appear to hnvo suffered anv very extensive damago by going on the reef at Ilaapai. oinco taking tho barque in tow at tho stands everything has worked in splendid order on board tho Taviuni, and though lere was a heavy sea for two days after leaving, not a lino parted during tho whole o the passage. At eight o'clock last night j vlmi '. anchored inside of Tiritiri, and Captain Smith gave orders for ft iv 8 to ho shortened, so that tho Woosung could be brought alongside of the steamer, and this work being accomplished, the Taviuni resmod her passago, and anchored in tho stream shortly before midnight. Having soon tho barque safely moored, tho Taviuni berthed at tho wharf. Tho towing of tho Woosung to this port, from such a long distance, without an accident of any kind is a record of which Captain Smith and tho officers of the Taviuni may justly feol proud; and when all tho circumstances are taken into consideration, it i? no doubt one of the best towing records in these waters. 1
