GENERAL MINING ITEMS.

Some misconception appears to have arisen as to the paragraph in respect to the German experts, which appeared yesterday. Mr. Whalley and Mr. Beale accompany the representatives of the Anglo-Continental Gold Mining Syndicate and United Exploration Company over gronnd for the sale of which the gentlemen named are aoting.

THE ZIMAN SYNDICATE. EXTENSIVE OPERATIONS IN NEW ZEALAND. [BY TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. The mining syndicate which Mr. Ziman has formed has a capital of nearly a quarter of a million. It includes one of the Rothchilds. Baron Hirsch, a number of prominent Anglo-Australian merchants, and several Wellington capitalists. Mr. Ziman is due here in three weeks, bringing with him six or seven mining experts, The properties acquired by the syndicate are to be worked vigorously on the very latest principles. A Board of Management has been formed in London, and a Board of advice will be set up in Wellington. Mr. Jones, a retired Johannesburg mining expert, and a man'of considerable wealth, who is also a member of of the Ziman syndicate, is coming to New Zealand shortly to settle permanently.

MINE MANAGER'S REPORTS. Magazine (Thames, March 17).—The lode continues a fine body of stone, over three feet wide and well mineralised, and contains gold. I cau obtain fair dish prospects by mortar test.

Sheridan (Tapu, March 16).—The work of providing ventilation should be completed in the course of a week.

Freedom (Thames, March 17). — When breaking down the leader opened out on at No. 1 level, good strong dabs of gold were seen. Although the leader_ is still split up there is every sign of it coming together in a few feet.

Progrkss - Castle Rock' (Coromandel, March 16). — reef which I rose on was not the same as the one worked on by Vizard, but a branch of the same, and being the strongest branch on the main body ot the reef. Expect gold now at any breaking dovvD, or will be very much disappointed. Isglewood (Owharoa, March 16).— lode has opened out the full width of the winze, about four feet big, and still carries good gold. City of London.—The reef is now about 15 inches in thickness, and a little gold Was seen during the week. Poeiri (Puriri).—This company a property is situated about 3.J miles up the Puriri Creek, and is about 3$ miles from eavesville. The area is 100 acres. It is bounded on the east by the Hit or Miss Gold Mining Company and the Parakura special claim, on the south by the Joker special claim, anil on the west by the l'airua track. Since this company commenced operations the following works have been carried on, viz.:—Maiu reef: This has been driven on for a distance of 205 feet. The size of the lode averages about 2 feet in thickness. It has prospected well the wholo distance, and colours of gold have been frequently seen. The country which the lode traverses is of a favourable description of sandstone, intermixed with silica veins. li low level crosscut is being driven to intersect this reef, which will give another 100 feet of backs to work on. This crosscut has been driven a distance of 168 feet, and the reef ought to be in hand in another 45 feet. No. 2 reef: This is about 1 foot 3 inches in thickness, and in various places along the lode colours of the precious metal have been frequently seen, and by pestle and mortar tests good prospects can be obtained; this reef has been driven on for a distance of 154 feet. The country in which He lode is tucased is of a kindly description for gold. No. 3, or silica lode : This has been driven on for 154 feet. The reef will average about 1 foot in width; though no gold is visible in the quartz, by pounding excellent prospects can be obtained. The country in which this reef i runs iB & splendid class of sandstone, and is easily worked. No. 4 leader has boon trenched on for a distance of 55 feet, and in breaking down the leader, which will average about 3 inches in thickness, colours of gold are occasionally seen, and good dish prospects are obtained. Since trenching the above we have driven a crosscut to intersect this lead, which was mot with after driving 22 feet, and the prospects are excellent. A ton of ore from the main reef is now being treated at the Thames School of Mines. Work is now being vigorously carried on in the low level crosscut to the main reef, which is expected to be cut in about 5 weeks ; also No 4 leader, in which it is expected to strike something good. The company have seemed a splendid machine site and water-right on the Puriri main creek. It may be stated that tins property la now I>MBO offered on the I London market. v
