BANKRUPTCY.

CREDITORS' MEETING. A meeting of creditors in the estate ot Newman Meider, hotelkeeper, was held at the office of the Official Assignee yesterday morning. Mr. John Lawson presided, and read the debtor's statement relating to the transactions during the four months-Octo-ber to January,—also the portion relating to the booth transactions, and asked the bankrupt if he was prepared now to confirm there statements, to which the bankrupt replied in the affirmative. Mr. Lawson then remarked that, inasmuch as it was alleged that Messrs. Nathan and Co. had undertaken to pay for all supplies during the four months mentioned out of the moneys (takings) handed over to them by the bankrupt, and certain creditors not being recognised, and in view of its being practically a trust account, it appeared to him that there was a preference. Mr. Nathan replied that they had paid all accounts rendered to them, and if there had beenany omission it was not their fault. Regarding the second item in bankrupt's statement, Messrs. Nathan and Jervis (Seooombe and Son) emphatically denied it, and asserted that they had really advised him not to take up the booth speculation, but, as he persisted, they _ agreed to assist him by money and goods, with the distinct understanding that he was to run thfl affair at his own risk. Mr. Lawson suggested that the two firms should make affidavits in support of their statement and thus settle the question, which was agreed to. Mr. Lawson then read the report of the investigation into Messrs. L. D. Nathan and Co.'a statement of accounts, and it was resolved to ask the Official Assignee to obtain his solicitor's opinion as to whether Messrs. L. D. Nathan and Co. could retain certain moneys received for the sale ot the leue aud stock.
