L The adjourned half-yearly meeting of the shareholders in the Matawai Gold Mining Company, Tiki, Coromandel. was held yesterday in Mr. J. H. Harrison a office, Hobson Buildings, Shortland-street. Mr. M. Niccol presided, and amongst those present were Messrs. A. Wright, J. Abbott, Dr. Qirdler, R. C. Greenwood, J. Mowbray, W. Gray, S. Von Stunner, Ledingham, and others. The chairman reminded them that at the previous meeting a committee had been appointed to go into the affairs of the company with Mr. W. Gray, tho auditor, and they endorsed his report which covered all the ground. This report was read. It appeared that practically Mr. Harrison had iucurred certain legal liability. It was unfortunate that it was so, but acting on legal advice ho had handed in a cheque for the amount for which he was liable. It was due to Mr. Harrison, that he (the chairman) should say that the directors' oonfidonce in him was unabatod. Mr. Harrison then road the auditor's report and the half-yearly balance sheet. Tho receipts were £750 for sale of shares, and there was a balance of £46119s 4d. The directors' report, which was a formal one, wan read, and the chairman explained that Mr. Hilton, who. had been asked to report as an expert on the mine, had not yet had time, owing to his other engagements, to furnish a report. He also intimated that Mr. Spencer Von Sturmer had been added to the Board of Directors, on which there was a vacancy. On the motion of Mr. Ledingham, seconded by Mr. Von Sturmer, a vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. W. Gray for the stand he had taken in regard to the balance-sheet. This was all the business.
