A REMARKABLE BRIDGE.
Some " considerable distance" south of Auckland, and " quite a large number" of miles north of Wellington stands a bridge. It is entitled to be called a remarkable bridge. . It is on the direct road to, and only a short distance from, Naowhtmnatikura.. ' When it was discovered by * p\rty of natives, the leader of the party exclaimed, "Homtiikaraiki 1" And, after many years, it is .still called by the natives " Waiapiti." _ And so it is a pity "> No doubt a reason was given for its construction at th« time, and the men who were instrumental in devoting public money to such workß, would look well gibbetted in chains on the same bridge, the only drawback being that 110 one would see them. .
