NOTES AND AN'TIOIFATIOKS. [rv tf.lkokapii.-own cokkespondent,] At the Tennis Champiotiship Meeting today, E. J. Ross (Christchureh), after defeating R. Gore (Wellington), met J. R. Hooper (Auckland) in tho semi-final. It may bo remembered that it was Ross who gave Hoopor such a hard tis;ht in the first round of last year's championship. Ho is wonderfully active, and gets up some of the baUs in 1111 Almost miraculous manner. Hooper for this match altered Ills tactics, comma: up more to volley. In tho last set Hooper seemed to go off his game somewhat, Rosi wiuninjc four games to his opponent's love; but Hooper came again and won the set and match.

To-morrow afternoon Hooptir meets Parker in the final. The excitement over the match is very great, Wellinßtonians greatly fancying their man, whoso very brilliant play against Collins astounded everyone. It was apparent from the result of this match that to go up and attempt to volley Parker's hard and fast low returns is impossible for any player at present in the colony, for Collins is distinctly the finest exponent of the volleying game. Of course Hooper's tactics will be entirely different, his game being mostly from the basa line, relying upon accurato placing and steady piny. In the combined Doubles Mr. Paterson and Miss Davy met Mr. Parker and Miss Nuniiolly, the strongest combination on the ground, and made a very good fight. The match was an exceedingly interesting one, and brilliant play was shown by both sides. Mr. Goldie and Miss Greenfield are considered to have an excellent chance of winning the Combined Handicap, The Ladies' Championship Doubles, between Misses Nunneley and Trimnell against Misses S. Hlaek and Lean, was a fine- exhibition of tennis, The hard hitting of Miss Nunneley, and tho steady rilaying of Miss Trimnell, eventually carried them through successfully. To enhance Hooper's chauce of winning the Championship, Brabant (another Auckland player) very considerately scratched himself for the Gentlemen's Championship Doubles.
