AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS. Few successes .that have been nehioved in Auckland can comparo with that ottainod on Dec. 7 at the Floral Fi'to, held at) Potter's Paddock by the Auckland Ladies' Benevolent Society. In fact, tlio success must have astounded even the most sanguine of the promoters, Thero was no doubt that weeks ago public interest began to eliow itself markedly in an event which was certainly the first of its kind ever held it] J\ew Zealand, if nob in Australasia. Bull none could possibly have gauged tlio magnitude of that interest, as it was manifested. No 0110 could liavo foreseen what it really turned out to be. Who could have imagined a picture so opulent in colour as thai) which was presented ? Looked down upon from the grand stand, it was as though tho wholo area of tlia paddock was ono vasb flower-bed. Every horso was caparisoned in well nigh all the lines known to floriculturists; every conveyance was a bed of bloom ; and with the manifold rich costumes of tho ladies, thoscene,once seen, could never be forgotten.
