Wanoaniji, Thursday, The New Zealand Chess Association Congress met to-day. All the players assembled at tho Borough Council Chambers excopfc Mr. Edwards. Dr. Heatherly was elected chairman. It was decided to play three rounds every two days, the scoring to be on the ordinary system. At three o'clock the Mayor (Mr. F. R. Jackson) welcomed tho visitors, and formally opened tho Congress, making tho first move at the board. Pairing: Anderson v. Hookliam, Mowatt v. Edwards, Lelievre v. Barnes, Mackay v. Cooks, Meldrum v. Pleasants, Seyton v. Hathurly. Remington v. Pearse. Mr. Seyton won tho first game against Dr. Uathorly ( English o)>euiii<r). Mr. I'earsc defeated Mr. Reinington, Mr. Pleasants defeated Mr. Meldrum, and Mr. Barnes defeated Mr, Lelieve. The other games arc untinMicd. They are all fairly equal.
