MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. New M'iasataiari (Thames, December 21).-On the I.foot level, in the 00l 'en Calf section, the drive on No. 2 reef has reached a point KXi feel west of the break. For the past 40 feet solid ground has been gone through, and there still remains 50 f'et. to *o before the boundary Is reached, Gold is still being seen freely through the quartz, which is of a nice kindly description. The stone In the eastern slopes is also looking better, and shows a little gold. No. 4 lead in the stnpes continues to supply a fur ponnds of picked stone daily, and on the whole there is a fair prospect of a continued improvement upwards. Point Itussell level: Tho drive eastward on the Golden Age reef is still in good country, but the reef itself, which has been broken into during the week, does not look much, and consequently Is not being saved for treatment. The Dawn of Rope crosscut, which is now M) feet into the footwnll of tho Golden Ag« reef, lias not intersected any leaders ?eS, and the other workings here are without chanjro. Amalgam for the wee* 420z, picked stone 501b. FREEDOM (Thames. December 53).—Driving has been contlnn-d at the intermediate level, footwall leader No. 1 level, and stops over No. 1 level. At the intermediate the junction has been met with of the footwall '.eider which we are driving on at No. 1 level, and the 25rd June reef, gold was soen In the leader. Taiisma* (Karangalnke, Decomber 20).Stopine operations have been continued in each of No. J and No. 4 levels in the talisman section. In iho Bonanza section we have done a considerable amount of trenching on the surface, with the remit that a new reef from 12 to IS Inches wide has been discovered, from which a very nice prospect of gold can be obtained by crushing tho stone with the pestle an t mortar. This lode is n'nnlng through a very nice sandstone country. Hazei,b»SK (Thames, Decomher 23).-Operations in the mine are still confined to tho cross reef, and Kelly's lend. The prospects of the mine are improved. Kelly's lead in the stopes that are being arried along, varies from 3 inches to IB inches in thickness, i lie quartz in places is of a kindly description, and contains \ considerable amount of mineral, amongst which gold is frequently seen, and occasionally a few pounds of picked stone is selected. There Is not much change on the cross reef; it is ahnnt two feet thick. Ohi.ando (Thames, December —Driving westward from the winze on Carpenter's reef has been carried on during the week, we are driving on the footwall of tho reef. The country Incasing the same is of a tight nature, hnt of a good description for gold. The reef Is fully 15 Inches wide and carries excellent minerals. A few colours of gold were freely seon the last' breaking down. Am driving into the hanging wall from the top of the winze on a quartz formation that should junction with the Uonrtißo reef; 26 or X) feet of driving should intersect the same. Golden Spun.(ffaltekanrl, December 21).-Oood-looking quartz continues to show in the face, but the country still presents the appearance of having been disturbed, and until the broken ground is passed through the reef is not likely to assume a compact form. In a few feet more the firmer country will probably be reached. A leader is in hand in another put of the claim, and some nicelooking stono has bwn obtained from it also. Aroosv (Thames, December 21).— drive on No. 1 leader has been extended a further distance of 10 feet in broken country. A slide has come in from the right or footwall side, winch will probably rut off all the disturbed country and leave us in firm sandstone. PURtRt (Thames, December 21). — Have extended tho drive on the main reef a further distance I ef four feet, thus making the total distance driven I on the line of the reef ISO feet. The country, which

accompanies the lode, is of a faTourable description of sandstone, and in pounding up soma of the oro by tho pestlo mortar nrocou, a fair prospect of gold can be seen in tho dish. The reef is about eight inches in thickness. Low lovt-1 crosscut: This drive has been advanced a further distance of lire feet, thus making the total distance driven 121 feet. Tho country through which we are passing is still of * hard description of country rock. Teutonic (Waitekxuri, December 17). -There is a slight change in the country ;''ir the better. W'a:tekai/ri south (Wallekauri, December 21). —Fair progress has bean made with the work on both tunnels. Thero is every appearance of a break in the reef In Scotia tunnel. Broken llii.i. (Thames, .December 21). We am still engaged shooting down the open face. The ore is iinproTinr in value. Tai.hjian Extended (Karaneahako, December 20).—The low-level is now in 215 feet. Several flinty veins are now cro«iin; the face, and in the same class of country as met with In the upper level before reaching tho break-apparently indicating its nearness Treasure section : On the 17th 1 discovered a new reef; its course is north and south, underlying t > the west; it* dimensions are 1 feet in width This lode is well defined, and traverses a most oxcellont class of cm try, and very fair prospects of gild are to be got ftoin the rubbly and solid quartz of which it is conni >sed. Cardigan (Thames, Decoinner -2-1). —Tho crosscut ban been extended a further distance of 4i feet for the week, beinr now a total distaeco of 185 foot; the rubbly form irion is now clear of the drive on the left-hand side; the ground in the face still continue.! of a ftvourable description far gold. The crosscut is now 20 feet in the Cardiff in ground. There are yet 90 feet to drive to get opposite Uogan's old shaft. Comstock (Thames, December 21).—Still continning the crosscu'. The country Is first-class, and contains some nics mineral voiiis. flive driven 6 -ot during the past week. Uol.len Crown section: Reef more compact and abcut 2 fost in thickness ; some nice mineral is showing in the centre of the lode. British Empire (IVaitokauri, December 21).No. 1 drive is in mother twelve feet The country has improved greatly. There aro some nice-looking stringers which I take to be dropp-rs from the main reef. In tip! upper drive things ./.re looking very well. The country is of a nice-looking kindly san Istone, with leaders of a nice nature running through, which yield a proipoct when tested in the mortar. N r.w IViiAti (Thames, December 2.l).—The crosscut has been extended and the ground is much the same as last reported. The low level Ins been extended IS fact. The re«f here at present is rather broken, the reef being abnni one foot thick and is heavily charged with different minerals, such a* iron pryites and antimony. Adelaide (hums', December 23) Oontrictors have sunk the main shift a further depth of 10 feet 6 inches; tottl depth. 12.' foot.. The country is of a nice white sandstone, and fairly good for sinking. Have extended the rise above tunnel level 12 feet; total distance above the level, 62 feet; the country still continues tinht. lui'KitHl. (Karaniahak-*, December 21)— The reef in the win?.« still continues to look very well. It i< carrying nice mineral, and wo see a llrtlo go'' l at every breaking down. We are not breaking all of the qinrtz as we are going down. therefore I 1 an-iot possibly tell the proper size of the lode. We are sinking partly in the mullock and just liking * side hole oft the quartz. This was tho speediest way to get throuih. Wealth oy Nations (Karannhake, December 21).—Have driven a further iliitinra of seven feet during the week. The country continue* to he a t"U;h class •>( sinlstone. Cut through a small white vein of quartz during tin week. Ihtre s-ill continues to be a little vater issuing from the face.
